An End to Snoring?Ocala doctor receives patent for invention BY GWENN WELCH, Neighbors Feature Correspondent, Ocala Star Banner News Dr. Adam Alpers can add the word inventor to his already impressive resume. "After experiencing some problems with snoring," he said, "I decided to find an alternative way of helping myself and others." Alpers had already gone through a work-up for sleep apnea, and was not a candidate for a C-PAP machine (oxygen).
"You can get things that may help you sleep but most of them don't help if congestion or allergies are there," Alpers explained. "I tried everything I could think of that is already on the market. It is people out there like me who fall through the cracks." That is when Alpers decided to see if he could invent something that would help him. He played around with different types of nostril dilators that would help you breath better without being uncomfortable. Alpers used himself for trials until he came up with a good prototype. "I was surprised that something like this had never before been developed," Alpers said. Granted a patent for his design, he then did a study using volunteers from his office. Each of the volunteers had snoring and congestion problems. Seventy-three percent found improvement. "Obviously it is not for everybody," Alpers said, "but it is great for the people who it does help." He found it especially helpful to people with either snoring or congestion, or both. Alpers spent a lot of time and money on research, design, technology, comfort, not to mention finding the right manufacturer and marketing company. Snorend™ is available in Small & Medium Size.
